Welcome to Corporate Governance SA

The Coporate World is moving into an era of hightened emphasis on CORPORATE GOVERNANCE.

In South Africa there have been a number of factors that are spotlighting the need for companies to relook at how they operate – Corporate Governance is not concerned with “how much money” you make, corporate governance is concerned with “how you make” the money!

With the launch of the King III Code of Governance for South Africa we move to the forefront of Corporate Governenace Internationally. This Code (along with the New Companies Act) introduces a range of governance requirements into the South African commercial environment at a critical time. The world is reeling from, what some would call, excesses that were the result of inadequate corporate governance and an inadequately structured economic environment. Now is the time to address these issues -and in South Africa we are being “compelled to” apply our collective corporate mind to the challenges and opportunities that are emerging in this new environment.

This blog is an attempt to assist many in coming to grips with the challenges and opportunities faced by companies in the field of Corporate Governance as a result of:

  • The New South African Companies Act (Act 71 of 2008)
  • King III Code of Corporate Governance
  • The New South African Consumer Protection Act (Act 68 of 2008)
  • Revised Competition Legislation
  • Labour Relations and Employment Equity
  • The need for businesses to address the current Recessionary Environment
  • The prerogative for Ethical Business
  • And suchlike…

I welcome input and queries in this regard. As a Business Advisor, Analyst and Consultant I run a series of Seminars – the SINK or SWIM: Cutting Edge Seminars – that seek to address some of these Business Critical Issues.
